SBA was retained by Rainy River First Nation for the design and construction of upgrades to the Community’s existing Water Treatment Plant. The Water Treatment Plant had reached the end of its 20‑year service life and no longer met the Community’s water demand. As such, SBA has completed the design for the Water Treatment Plant upgrades which included, but is not limited to, a below grade reservoir expansion, inclusion of an MD80 filtration system, nanofiltration system, as well as UV and chlorination system to provide the required disinfection.
As part of this project, it was identified that the current well supply was not adequate for the 20-year demand. SBA undertook a well testing and new well exploration study and oversaw the construction and testing of a new wellfield for the Community. Following confirmation of adequate water supply, SBA completed the design of approximately 3km of raw watermain to connect to the upgraded Water Treatment Plant.
