Community Recreation and Cultural Centre & Youth Crisis Centre

The Ojibway’s of Onigaming have been under state of emergency due to high rates of suicide and suicidal behaviour in the Community since 2014. In response to these devastating circumstances, SBA, alongside Bret Cardinal & Associates and Studio C Architecture, have been working on the development of two essential projects: a Community Recreation and Cultural Centre and a Youth Crisis Centre.

The Community Recreation and Cultural Centre will be a state-of-the-art facility which embodies a vision for a strong and prosperous future. The Project Team includes SBA’s Planning Team, who have focused on securing millions of dollars in funding support from 6+ contributing partners, while our Civil, Structural and Water/Wastewater Engineers have collaborated with technical experts to deliver a project that is technically sound and meets the wants and needs of the Ojibway’s of Onigaming.

This project also includes the development of a Technical Feasibility Study for a Youth Crisis Centre. The purpose of this Feasibility Study is to review and analyze the viable options for the provision of the new Youth Crisis Centre as well as to provide a recommendation on how to proceed with the implementation of the preferred option. Over the span of two years, SBA has worked continuously with the Ojibway’s of Onigaming and the Project Team to refine this project plan to reflect new project goals and Community understanding. SBA secured funding for this study through Indigenous Services Canada and CHRT 41.
