Pumped Storage Hydro Feasibility Study

SBA was retained by Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek/Rocky Bay First Nation to apply for funding and work with the Community on a Feasibility Study for a Pumped Storage Hydro (PSH) system to be used in conjunction with green energy production.

Early investigations indicated that the geography of Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek territory offers a unique opportunity to design a highly productive Pumped Storage Hydro project that would lead to energy production and stability. The program would be grid connected and has the potential to generate profits for the First Nation as an economic development opportunity. The use of Pumped Storage Hydro in conjunction with green energy, such as wind energy, will help Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek obtain energy autonomy and security and meet the Canadian target of a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and a net-zero carbon emission by 2050.
