SBA was retained to complete a Schedule ‘B’ Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) to address a projected shortfall in water supply and to ensure that the Town has sufficient water supply to meet anticipated demands placed by a growing population over the next 20 years. Several options were identified including increasing production by at existing groundwater supply wells.
Due to proximity of two Town water supply wells to a watershed divide, an Intra-basin Transfer Study was required as one option required pumping water from the Lake Erie Watershed and discharging it after use to the Lake Ontario Watershed.
SBA led three public consultation events to inform the public, developers and regulatory agencies and to solicit input into the project.
The final recommendation of the EA was to add additional treatment to one of the Town wells, increase production at two wells, and to identify a new production well in the future.
